Browns reportedly will make a pregame statement about racial inequality

The Browns have a message to share at FirstEnergy Stadium.

The Cleveland Browns have come up with an original and effective way to get their concerns about social injustice and racial inequality across. The team plans to show a 30-second video in which players discuss the issues that have led players to protest during the national anthem since Colin Kaepernick began doing so last summer.

There will be messages from tackle Joe Thomas, quarterback DeShone Kizer, linebacker Jamie Collins, linebacker Christian Kirksey, Coach Hue Jackson and others, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reports. And tight end Randall Telfer will close with a message about what the flag stands for.

Players have asked that Jimmy and Dee Haslam, the team’s owners, stand with them on the field during the video and national anthem.

The Browns have become one of the NFL’s leaders on the issue, with a dozen players taking a knee in prayer during a preseason game last month. Included in that group was, for the first time, Seth DeValve, a white player who is married to an African-American woman.

“There’s a lot of racial and social injustices in the world that are going on right now,” rookie safety Jabrill Peppers said. “We just decided to take a knee and pray for the people who have been affected and just pray for the world in general.”

Last season, no white players were among those by participating in anthem protests, but several did so before games last month. The Eagles’ Chris Long, the Seahawks’ Justin Britt and the Raiders’ Derek Carr stood while showing support for black teammates.

Joe Haden’s release left Hue Jackson ‘irate,’ according to report

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Joe Haden’s release and subsequent signing with the Steelers left Hue Jackson “irate” according to CBS Sports’ Jason LaCanfora, and heightened tensions before the coaching staff and front office.

According to LaCanfora, the staff felt Haden was having a great preseason, was finally healthy and serving as a leader on the field.

He reported that Jackson didn’t know the Browns were even shopping Haden, who was due to make $11.1 million this season and roughly the same amount over each of the next two years.

For his part, Jackson made it clear before Haden was released that he wanted him on the team.

“I trust (Executive Vice President) Sashi (Brown) and his group to make the right decisions that I think is best for our football team,” Jackson said before Haden was released. “Do I want Joe Haden on our football team? Yes, but whatever our organization thinks is best for our football team, that’s what we’ll do.”

Jackson, who spent time talking to Haden during warmups on the field Sunday, acknowledged how important he was to the defense, and didn’t sound like a man who wanted him gone.

“He’s played well in our games,” said Jackson. “So he’s a huge piece of what we do on defense and we’ll just keep moving from there. You guys catch me when I’m coming off the field with all these things that I know nothing about, so let’s stay after it.”

LaCanfora reported that “Brown has clashed with coaches consistently during his controversial tenure, and the disconnect between coaching and personnel continues.”

It’s a characterization that both sides have denied since last season.

In fact, they’ve gone out of their way to present a united front on personnel decisions, including the draft and free agency.

LaCanfora also reported that the Brown “rankled” the coaches by trading starting middle linebacker Demario Davis to the Jets for Calvin Pryor.nf1 games today, calvin pryor, nfl football, nfl standings, reddit nfl streams
